If you end up purchasing the Christmas cards you intend to give to friends and loved ones, they already come with clever sayings. However, it is always nice if you could add a few words of your own. Furthermore, if you make your own handmade Christmas cards, you will need to find things to say.

It may seem like a big problem for some people but it really isn’t because there are countless sources and resources from which to get the appropriate wording besides from the depth of individual hearts. First of all there is always the Internet which is easy and convenient. But you can also find wonderful sayings in poetry books, phrases from Biblical scriptures or from the lyrics of your favorite songs or nursery rhymes.

Or, best of all, you might just sit down, look deep into your own heart and soul and write down whatever comes up. Read it back to yourself and I have no doubt that you will be pleasantly surprised.

Consider the following few Christmas card sayings which happen to be my personal favorites:

Sir Walter Scott:  A Christmas gambol oft could cheer
The poor man’s heart through half the year.

St. Luke (10-12):  And the angel said unto them, “Fear not! For, behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

Dr. SeussDr. Seuss:  And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.

Helen Steiner Rice:  Best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year.
Bless us Lord, this Christmas, with quietness of mind;
Teach us to be patient and always to be kind.

P.J. O'Rourke:  Christmas begins about the first of December with an office party and ends when you finally realize what you spent, around April fifteenth of the next year.

Calvin Coolidge:  Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.
